Cheney's near miss...

Cheney escapes Taliban assassination attempt. From MSNBC.com:

"BAGRAM, Afghanistan - A suicide bomber attacked the entrance to the main U.S. military base in Afghanistan on Tuesday during a visit by Vice President Dick Cheney, killing up to 23 people and wounding 20. The Taliban claimed responsibility and said Cheney, who was unharmed, was the target.
The office of Afghan President Hamid Karzai reported that 23 people had been killed, but the U.S. military put the toll at nine. The discrepancy could not be reconciled immediately. At least one U.S. soldier, an American contractor and a South Korean soldier were among the dead, NATO said."

I'll try not to say anything bitter--and though I joke about Cheney's death I'd prefer Cheney gets impeached rather than fragged (seriously, I really do prefer it), but I will say that this, if anything, this should be a wake up call to the administration that the Taliban are not only alive and kicking, but planning on a grander scale that Al-qada or any of the other insurgent groups that have vouched for sheer mindless bloodshed in Iraq. Likewise one must question what type of intelligence leak is occurring over in Pakistan (the Taliban's best bud). This administration's interest in going on the offensive in Iran right now seems comparable with the Captain on the Titanic planning its holiday party after the iceburg hit. Who ever gets in office in 2008 is going to have a bucketload of problems to repair.
