Right now Obama and Clinton are separated by about 80 delegates. Edwards is sitting on 26. If neither Obama or Clinton can one up the other and get over a 26 vote majority, Edwards could, in theory, make the Democratic nominee and ask them for whatever he wants. Furthermore, by not endorsing either candidate his support will look more authentic to the general public.
The best part? He doesn't have to do jack.
